Kambala is a centuries-old festival celebrated in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. The event involves the traditional buffalo race, a popular and unique sport among the farming community of the state. Each team consists of two buffaloes and a farmer racing through a slushy muddy field. The Kambala festival season starts in November, the beginning of the harvest season, and lasts till March.
Chikal Kalo is a traditional Goan mud festival that is celebrated during the monsoon season. It takes place in the grounds of the Devaki Krishna temple in the village of Marcel, Goa. People of all age groups come together to take part in the rituals or just have fun playing in the mud.
Old Goa is a historical region on the southern banks of the Mandovi River. It was established by the Bijapur Sultanate in the 15th century and served as the capital of Portuguese India from the 16th to 18th century. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Old Goa is famous for many colonial-era monuments, particularly the Basilica of Bom Jesus which houses the body of St. Francis Xavier.
St Inez Church was originally constructed in 1584 and rebuilt in the 1600s. The church’s cemetery was inaugurated on 1st January 1879 and is known to have sculpted headstones that are almost a hundred years old, a stately tribute to fallen soldiers.
